Now you can let people know you’ve arrived at your destination on Snapchat

After launching its “Home Safe” feature that lets users notify friends and family that they have safely arrived home, Snapchat is now introducing additional alerts that let others know when users have arrived at other destinations.

The social media giant announced Monday that its new “Arrival Notifications” will now allow users to set one-time or recurring alerts for locations other than their home, giving them a way to automatically share when they arrive at a specific location.

“Arrival Notifications now works for everyday moments, like letting someone know you’re back for the evening while traveling, or automatically sharing when you arrive at your weekly class, practice, or meeting. You never have to remember to send a message,” the company said in a blog post.

Similar to the platform’s Home Safe alerts, arrival notifications can only be sent to friends who choose to share their location. Note that location sharing in Snap Map is turned off by default. Snapchat explained that no one can see your location or receive alerts unless you choose to share. One-time alerts expire after they are sent or after 24 hours.

To use Arrival Notifications, you need to share your location with a trusted friend who you want to keep in the loop. Next, you need to tap on your friend’s profile and scroll down to “Arrival Notifications”. You can select a location on the map and give it a personal name. For example, you can set up a “running club” location or a “piano lesson” location. Then, choose a one-time or recurring alert and Snapchat will notify your friends when you arrive.

The new feature comes after Snapchat announced last summer that Snap Map had more than 400 million monthly active users.

Launched in 2017, Snap Map was originally a way for users to locate their friends and view public snaps from around the world. The feature now also provides a way for users to discover local hotspots and find things to do.

Snapchat is using its Home Safe and Arrival Notification features to further compete with services like family location-sharing app Life360 and Apple’s Find My.
