Lovable, an AI-powered app building platform, has helped Atech, a Danish hardware startup that wants to bring “vibe coding” to the hardware creation process. Lovable was participating in an $800,000 pre-seed round that also included participation from a16z’s Scout Fund, Sequoia Scout Fund, and Nordic Makers.
In a chat with TechCrunch, Gustav Hugod, head of customer experience at Atech, said how the platform works is very simple. Users purchase starter hardware kits from Atech’s site for whatever they want to build. Then, open a tab on the site, talk to the AI chatbot, explain the concept of the hardware you’re trying to build, and the AI tool will generate code to help you build a working prototype. Hugod said the company’s user base is now fairly broad “from 4-year-olds building cars to hydrogen synthesis plants that need accurate voltage sensing.”
Building any type of hardware prototype typically requires decades of experience or finding expensive but talented engineers. But Hugod said that as “the software accessibility gap collapses,” so will the difficulty of building in the hardware realm. “In a democratized world, hardware has to be available to everyone,” he said. The new capital will be used for research and development, marketing and hiring.
