All in all, New Yorkers are getting hot, and what better way to let it go than with the shocking ice bath President Donald Trump took when he arrived at Madison Square Garden (MSG) for what would be a disastrous Game 3 between the Knicks and Spurs.
After the Knicks’ Game 2 win, the country’s leader announced he would become the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game, sparking mockery online and citywide concerns that the unfavorable leader would bring bad luck to the famous arena. Prior to the game, the U.S. Secret Service barricaded the sidewalks around the venue and canceled a public viewing party outside MSG that night. In response, Mayor Zoran Mamdani, who was watching the game, arranged another viewing event at Bryant Park in Manhattan. Users online have begun preparing for the president’s appearance, posting a viral tutorial on how to properly boo the president with the caption, “How to avoid the curse that befalls the Knicks in Game 3.”

So when the national anthem signaled the start of the game and cameras turned to President Trump in his private box, the crowd geared up and went wild. That night, President Trump told reporters outside Air Force One: “I mean, I actually thought it was amazing. You mean when they pointed the camera at me? I thought it was very cool. Yeah, it was definitely amazing. I think it was mostly cheering. It was loud and very enthusiastic.”
President Trump has previously criticized the league’s “liberal” player politics, echoing his sentiments during Game 3, saying, “It’s a little left-wing, but it’s great entertainment. It’s great.”
