The Providence duck, who has a large following on social media, became the unofficial mascot of Scotland fans when he joined the tartan army in Friday’s pre-game bagpipe march.

Dawn the Duck, also known as Dhoni, carried the Scottish flag on her back, along with her customary gold medallion, to lead a procession in Rhode Island ahead of Friday’s World Cup match against Morocco.

He’s the latest duck to join the soccer fun after Mexican fans adopted Marlin as their unofficial mascot.

Dawn is better known as “Larry Duck” and became famous for attending a game of the Providence University Friars basketball team in 2024. However, he was soon banned from the stadium due to animal welfare concerns.

However, Dawn still frequently attends events around Providence and has more than 30,000 followers on Instagram.

He joined the Tartan Army in the procession as many Scotland fans decided to remain in Providence, some 40 miles from the stadium where the first two Group C matches would be held.

Scotland fans also took over Boston, almost running out of beer from local bars.

“This was one of the most fun eight days I’ve had in Providence in a long time, and that’s in no small part due to my new best friend from Scotland,” Providence Mayor Brett Smiley told NBC10.

Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 and will hope to secure a place in the knockout stages before facing Brazil in Miami on Wednesday.
