All states where Pornhub is blocked as of July 2026

Explicit tube site Pornhub is currently blocked in 25 US states.

This is due to age verification laws. These laws vary from state to state, but typically require visitors to sites with one-third or more of explicit content to provide a government ID or other form of age verification. Louisiana was the first state to enact such a law several years ago, and other states are now following suit. In June, the Supreme Court ruled Texas’ age verification law constitutional, setting a precedent for similar bills introduced before and after it.

Preliminary research suggests that age verification doesn’t work to keep minors away from porn sites. This is caused by software such as VPNs that make it look like someone is somewhere else, and non-compliant websites. (Florida’s attorney general is suing foreign porn sites that didn’t implement age verification.) Yet these laws continue to be passed, and even less explicit websites are being infiltrated, experts tell Mashable.

Despite Ohio’s age verification law, Pornhub is not blocked in Ohio. This is because of the provision that establishing age verification methods does not apply to providers of interactive computer services (which Aylo considers itself to be a service provider).

In Louisiana, Aylo (Pornhub’s parent company) told Mashable that site traffic has dropped by about 80 percent because users have to submit ID to view Pornhub.

“These people didn’t stop looking for porn. They just moved to the dark corners of the internet, where they don’t ask users to verify their age, they don’t follow the laws, they don’t take user safety seriously, and they don’t even moderate content. In reality, the laws have only made the internet more dangerous for adults and children,” Airo said when asked for comment by Mashable in January.

In a statement to Mashable, Airo continued:

First, we want to be clear that while Aylo has publicly supported user age verification for many years, we believe that legislation to this effect is necessary to protect the safety and privacy of our users and effectively protect children from accessing content intended for adults.

Unfortunately, the methods many jurisdictions around the world have chosen to implement age verification are ineffective, ad hoc, and dangerous. Regulations that require hundreds of thousands of adult sites to collect large amounts of sensitive personal information are putting user safety at risk. Moreover, as experience has shown, unless properly enforced, users will simply visit non-compliant sites or find other ways to circumvent these laws.

Industry experts say age verification laws not only defeat their intended purpose, but also raise privacy and safety concerns because they require websites to host (more) people’s personal information. It’s becoming more difficult to remain anonymous online, which experts warn is dangerous for free speech. Adult industry expert Mashable spoke with Aylo to explain the age verification law, which also advocates for device-level filters, as mentioned in a statement.

Some in the adult industry are worried about what President Trump’s second term will bring, with his conservative policy brief, Project 2025, and its anti-porn measures. Russell Vought, one of the authors of Project 2025, was discovered in a secret recording in which he said age verification laws were a “backdoor” to a broader porn ban.
