After realising a new button that users can turn down or dislike comments on Instagram, the company is testing how users signal that they don’t like comments or don’t think it’s relevant I’ve confirmed that.

This feature appears in both feed posts and reels.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a post on the thread that the company doesn’t show how many they dislike and no one knows you hate comments. He added that in the end, people who don’t like will be counted in the rankings of comments.

“You may have seen that you’re testing a new button next to a comment on Instagram, which gives people a private way to show they’re not feeling well about that particular comment. I want to be clear: this is a test, there is no count of dislikes, and no one knows if you want to tap the button. Ultimately, I’ll integrate this signal into the ranking of comments. , we may move down comments we dislike. Our hope is that this may help make comments more accessible on Instagram,” Mosseri said.

Last month, App Sleuth Alessandro Paluzzi posted about testing such features on Instagram, and now the company is official.

Meta said the test is to contribute to improving the quality of the comment section.

“We’re working on ways to give people better control over their Instagram experience and what they see on the app,” a company spokesperson said. “We test a new button next to each comment on the reel or feed post and determine that people are not feeling good or relevant about that particular comment. We are a very small group of people. I’m testing this to get started with people. I sometimes move these comments down later in the comments section to help create a better experience,” they added.

Reddit has had a downvoting mechanism for years, and the platform uses it to sort different types of comments based on UPVotes and Downvotes. The meta is moving in a similar direction, but it remains to be seen whether they will give these votes just like Reddit.
