Volker Turk says his office has “confirmed” cases of rebels who killed children and recruited in the Eastern DRC.

High Commissioner for UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk accused Tuesday of seizing the second major city of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killing children, attacking hospitals and attacking warehouses that store humanitarian aid. did.

The Turks said in a statement Tuesday that his office “confirmed an instance of child summary execution by M23 after entering Bukabu city last week.” They also recognize that children own weapons. ”

He did not mention any particular events, but UN agencies have previously condemned the adoption of both Congolese government forces and rebels.

Earlier this month, the UN Human Rights Council launched a committee investigating atrocities, including rape and murder, similar to the “summary enforcement” committed by both parties since the beginning of the year.

The statement also reported that Turkish offices were “arbitrarily arrested and detention” and reported on abuse and “suspected forced interests of young Congolese men fleeing violence in neighbouring countries.” He said he received it.

On Sunday, the M23 rebels captured Bukabu, a city of 1.3 million people, after seizing 101 kilometers (63 miles) of sesame seeds last month. At least 3,000 people have been killed and thousands have been reportedly evacuated in the Battle of Goma.

The M23 is most notable of over 100 armed groups fighting for control of the trillion dollar mineral wealth of the Eastern DRC, important in the production of many of the world’s technology. According to UN experts, the rebels are supported by troops of around 4,000 people from nearby Rwanda.

Rwanda has denounced the DRC for the HUTU fighter enlisted in charge of the 1994 minority Tuttis and moderate Hutus genocide. M23 is fighting to protect the Tuttis and Congo from discrimination, which is of Rwandan origin, and wants to turn the Congo from a failed state into a modern state, but critics say it is an excuse for Rwandan involvement Masu.

Unlike in 2012, when M23 temporarily seized Goma and withdrew after international pressure, analysts said the rebels are now focusing on political power.

The decades of battle displaced more than 6 million people in the region and created one of the world’s biggest humanitarian crises.
