Humanity closes at a $3.5 billion funding round with a valuation of $61.5 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal. The AI startup, known for its development of Claude Chatbot, continues to attract deep investors keen to promote the next phase of artificial intelligence development.

Latest supporters include Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, and Bessemer Venture Partners. Humanity has not yet responded to requests for comment.

“Humanity has finalised a $3.5 billion funding round valued the startup behind Chatbot Claude at $61.5 billion, and despite the devastating arrival of China’s Deepsyk, an artificial intelligence company. It shows how enthusiastic the promising investors are.

This funding is based on a series of major investments over the past year. In January, Reuters reported that it was close to securing another $2 billion at a $60 billion valuation, following Amazon’s $4 billion commitment in 2023.

In January, Google doubled its investment in humanity, earning another $1 billion in addition to its existing $2 billion investment, reaffirming its confidence in the potential of a startup.

The funding arms race reflects the pursuit of relentless domination of the high-tech industry in the AI sector. Microsoft’s Openai, which set the stage for the launch of CHATGPT in November 2022, recently closed its $6.6 billion funding deadline in October, raising its valuation to an eye-catching $157 billion.

Humanity has positioned itself as one of Openai’s main challengers, as its presence has increased in the space of foundation models. The company has jumped a massive leap from its latest valuation, valued at $18 billion last year after a fundraising round led by Menlo Ventures.

Beyond funding, humanity is responding to the competition by launching Claude 3.7 Sonnet, an advanced AI model that provides faster responses and improves gradual inference. As AI companies push the boundaries of what is possible, this latest development highlights how humanity is shrinking its competitiveness.

The rise of the meteor of humanity

San Francisco-based humanity is recognized for advances in AI generated as a strong competitor for industry leaders like Openai. Its flagship chatbot, Claude, is gaining momentum and shows impressive features in a variety of use cases.

In OP-ED published by the Wall Street Journal on Monday, humanity CEO Dario Amody highlighted the strategic implications of AI development, saying, “The country that builds powerful AI systems first is more strategic than its development.” “We will gain a strong advantage.” It urges US officials to ensure leadership in this field.

Humanity was founded in 2021 by former Openai executives, Dario Amodei (CEO), Daniela Amodei, Jack Clark, Sam McCandlish, and Tom Brown. Driven by the transformational possibilities of Generated AI, Dario, and Daniela Amodei, it created a “manipulable, interpretable, robust large-scale AI system.” Before launching humanity, Daniela Amody served as Vice President of Safety and Policy for the Open.
