PARIS (AP) — A high school student stabbed four other students at a Western France school on Thursday, killing at least one person and injuring three others before being arrested, police said.
The reason for the stab wound was unknown. Fatal attacks are extremely rare in French schools.
According to national police officers, students stabbed four people with knives during their lunch break at Notre Dame de Toutes-Aides High School, a private Catholic school in Nantes near the Atlantic coast of France. The teacher conquered him and he was later taken to police, officials said. Officials were not permitted to be publicly named in accordance with national police policies.
Students at the school told French media on the scene that the suspect sent an unspecified, dissatisfied email to all students just before the attack.
According to a French broadcast, the school had police secured the lot, asked questions and asked questions, locked students up for hours while worried parents waited outside. Police and armed troops surrounded the area.
Minister of Education Elizabeth Born and Interior Minister Bruno Letterou arrived at school later that day. Borne said he wanted to show solidarity between the victims and the school community,” district prosecutors announced a press conference later Thursday.
School staff, part of the complex housing complexes of elementary and middle schools, did not comment on what happened, saying the school was focused on caring for students who were on campus at the time. The school website was down.
