Ozturk’s lawyers said the case should be moved to Vermont if the judge disagrees. They said her detention violated her constitutional rights, including free speech and legitimate processes. They asked the judge to order her to be returned to Massachusetts soon and released from custody. Casper took this issue under advice.
Outside the court building on Thursday, protesters marched and held up signs on her behalf. Previously, Ozturk colleagues and almost 20 Tufts University members submitted letters to court in support of the request, describing them as gentle, caring and important members of the Tufts community.
