ACLU sues the Department of Defense School System over banning race and gender-related books

The American Civil Liberties Union sues the Department of Defense school system for children in military families, claiming that the removal of race and gender-related books and curricula violates First Amendment protections against student government censorship.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in US District Court in Northeast Virginia said the Department of Defense Educational Activities resolved educational materials in line with an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January.
