Authorities say the nationwide blackout will hit Syria due to malfunctions, authorities say.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Energy said Syria is suffering from a nationwide blackout due to malfunctions at several points on the national grid.
The spokesman said the technical team is working on issues that hit Tuesday night. There was no initial indication that the attack was causing it.
Engineer Khaled Abu Dai, director of General Facility for Power Transmission and Distribution, told state news agency Sana:
Power returned to the states of Homs, Hama and Tartous, gradually returning to the rest of the governor, later citing the director.
Syria is suffering from severe blackouts, with most regions providing state-powered electricity available for only two or three hours a day. Damage to the grid means that generating or supplying more power is only part of the problem.
Damascus once received most of its oil for electricity generation from Iran, but supplies have been cut off in an attack by Hayat Taharil Al-Sham (HTS) led an exile of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, who was allied with Tehran in December.
The interim government under President Ahmed al-Sharah has pledged to quickly raise the power source by importing electricity from Jordan and using stray electricity.
Damascus also said it will receive two power generation vessels from Türkiye and Qatar to boost its energy supply.
Millions of Syrians can’t afford to install solar panels or pay large fees for private generator services.
New Syrian authorities have struggled to fix the abused infrastructure after 14 years of conflict destroyed much of the country. They have struggled to persuade Western countries to lift sanctions to make Syria’s economy viable again.
The country is also suffering from a series of devastating Israeli attacks that have caused major damage to basic infrastructure.
Since banishment of Al Assad, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes and deployed troops in the UN-patrol buffer zone high in the occupied Golan.
While al-Assad was in power, Israel also attacked Syria on a daily basis, bombing what it claimed to be a target for Iran and Hezbollah.
