There are new keywords to know as part of this artificial intelligence revolution, at least according to Antonio Gracias, founder of Valor Equity Partners.

While chatting at this year’s Upfront Summit in Los Angeles, he talked about the term he coined, “proentropic.” This represents a startup designed to thrive amid chaos and chaos. These upheavals include increased instability in climate, geopolitics, and, of course, technology.

The term has its origins in physics, where entropy is a measure of the amount of disorder or uncertainty in a system. The second law of thermodynamics states that disorder in a system increases over time and cannot be stopped. It is natural for systems similar to real life to always move towards a more chaotic state.

Gracias started thinking about the term in 2013, acknowledging that it can be difficult to understand. At the time, he believed that a combination of deglobalization and technological innovation would “change all power structures” worldwide.

He said the world had been tilting towards chaos at least since the end of the last century due to “the decline of the human population.” [have] We have grown and technology has changed. ”

“We look at companies that are good at predicting future states and figuring out where to go,” he said, citing portfolio company SpaceX as an example.

“It’s not just that they’re on the market today. [that] They think it’s effective, but [they’ve] Their strategies and employees incorporate a probabilistic way of thinking about the world. ” That means everything can change at any time.

“It’s really considering what happens in edge cases and actually benefiting from that,” he added.

Elsewhere in the conversation, he talked about the company’s strategy of staying true to its principles and again mentioned the global macro situation. “We are now entering an era in our economy where we must have moral courage if we really want to build a better world.”

He talked about the intersection of climate, energy, and hardware, using Tesla as an example. “If we know how to integrate software and hardware, he said, we can build great things without requiring as much computing. Gracias also talked about what the future holds for us right now.

“The general view is that artificial intelligence is going to be scary. Job losses, social unrest,” he listed. “And I don’t think this is true. I’m going to work hard over the next five to 10 years to prove this is not true.”In fact, he thinks the opportunity is greater than ever.

For example, he believes that as low-code/no-code tools become more effective, more people will be able to start companies, unlocking unprecedented levels of productivity. “You never know what they’re going to build,” he continued.

“We are the ones who decide whether we have a utopian or dystopian future.”
