The move comes in order to impose tariffs that make Infon overseas more expensive, following the threat from US President Donald Trump.

Apple says it plans to invest more than $500 million in the US over the next four years, including plans to hire 20,000 people and build a new server factory in Texas.

The move, released Monday, comes days after President Donald Trump said Apple CEO Tim Cook had promised that the tech giant’s manufacturing industry would move from Mexico to the US. Trump noted that the company is doing so to avoid paying tariffs.

That pledge comes as Trump, coupled with his investment commitment on Monday, continues to threaten to impose tariffs that could raise the costs of iPhones made in China.

“We are bullish on the future of American innovation and we are proud to build on years of US investment with this $500 billion commitment to our country’s future,” Cook said in the company’s blog. I mentioned it in the post.

Apple outlined some concrete movements in its announcement. Most importantly, the construction of a new factory in Houston, Texas, scheduled to open in 2026, will produce servers that power up Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI capabilities. The company claims the factory will create “thousands of jobs.”

The announcement is similar to early 2018 (one Apple created during the first Trump administration). It promised to create 20,000 new jobs as part of its $350 million spending in the US. Trump was also pondering tariffs that could affect the iPhone at the time, but he was not going to target those devices during his initial management.
