Apps to boycott American products surge to the top of Denmark’s App Store

European consumers are firing back at the United States after President Trump threatened to seize control of the Danish territory of Greenland. As a result, two mobile apps that offer ways to see if a product is American-made and suggest local alternatives have rocketed to the top of the Danish App Store in recent days.

The Danish App Store serves users in both Greenland and Denmark, and the same is true for Google Play.

The increase in downloads comes as Danish consumers have organized a grassroots boycott of American products, including canceling vacations in the United States and dropping subscriptions to U.S.-based streaming services such as Netflix.

New data from market intelligence provider Appfigures shows two apps are in the top 10 this month on both iOS and Android: NonUSA and Made O’Meter.

NonUSA jumped from No. 6 on Tuesday to No. 441 on January 9th and became the No. 1 app on Wednesday. This app is specifically designed to help users boycott American products in their daily lives. To use the app, users scan a product’s barcode and view the product’s origin information on their iPhone. We also suggest local Danish alternatives that users can purchase instead.

Currently, the app’s top five markets are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland, reflecting the Nordic Union’s stance on boycotting American products.

Made O’Meter, available for both iOS and Android, has a small footprint but is currently the #5 app on the App Store.

Combined average daily downloads for NonUSA for iOS, Made O’Meter for iOS, and Made O’Meter for Google Play have increased by 867% over the past seven days compared to the previous week.

Of course, the number of downloads the Danish App Store sees per day is very low compared to a large market like the US. In Denmark, it only takes a few thousand downloads a day to reach the top of the App Store. According to Appfigures, the iOS App Store in Denmark sees around 200,000 downloads per day across all apps.

Other apps currently in the top 10 of the Danish App Store include the travel app Rejsekort (perhaps useful for those changing their travel plans!) and other local services. Other top US-based apps include Shop, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Authenticator.
