The new Glassy Look for iPhone was toned down with Monday’s release of iOS 26’s third developer beta. This follows users’ complaints that some of the user interfaces have made them even more difficult to read. At WWDC 2025 in June, Tech Giant introduced a new design language known as Liquid Glass. This is inspired by real-world optical qualities, including how light and its translucent properties are refracted. However, the initial version of iOS 26’s first developer beta and the accompanying updates on other Apple devices leave room for improvement in terms of ease of use, accessibility and readability. Jack Dorsey, Block CEO and Twitter co-founder, wrote in a Sunday night X post that he created an app called Bitchat over the weekend (probably a combination of the words “bit” and “chat” rather than other words). Bitchat is a messaging app that operates over a Bluetooth mesh network, allowing users to send messages without Wi-Fi or receiving cells. Due to the technical limitations of Bluetooth, this type of app generally only works in the range of around 100 meters, and is useful in situations such as Cell Service finding friends at busy, uneven music festivals. However, Dorsey claims that…

Cybersecurity researchers are revealing malicious campaigns that use search engine optimization (SEO) addiction technology to provide a known malware loader called Oyster (aka Broomstick or Cleanuploader). Malvertising activity per Arctic Wolf promotes fake websites that host troilerized versions of legal tools such as Putty and WinSCP, and aims to search for these programs and install them instead. “At the time of execution, a backdoor known as Oyster/Broomstick was installed,” the company said in a simple matter that was released last week. “Permanence indicates that you create a scheduled task that runs every 3 minutes, run a malicious DLL (Twain_96.dll) via…

Waymo began two “road trips” to Philadelphia and New York City on Monday, expressing interest in the alphabet-owned company expanding to cities in the northeast. Waymo’s branded “road trips” do not necessarily represent a commercial launch anytime soon. Waymo has announced several other road trips this year, including Houston, Orlando, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Antonio. Travel usually involves sending small, human-driven vehicles with Waymo’s autonomous driving system to map new cities. Waymo then autonomously tests the vehicle, but still humans behind the wheels, but they learn back to the engineer to get data and improve the performance of…

The data industry is on the verge of dramatic transformation. The market is integrated. And if you’ve had transactions in the last two months, momentum is gaining if Databricks buys Neon for $1 billion and Salesforce snaps cloud management company Informatica for $8 billion. The acquired companies range in size, age and focus area within the data stack, but they all have one thing in common. These companies are being purchased in the hope that the acquired technology will become the missing pieces needed to employ AI in companies. At the surface level, this strategy makes sense. The success of…

In this adaptation excerpt from “Not Just Boys: Why We Need More Women in Science,” physicist Athens Donald examines the role of bias towards women in science publishing and its prevalence that still exists among academia. When examining individuals, it may be thought that there are appropriate quantitative and objective metrics to be used. In reality, such metrics can see the disadvantages of women. These trends can be significant in many different sectors and in different countries. In science, like elsewhere, references tend to use outstanding adjectives about women rather than men. This reduces the likelihood of progression.Women’s papers are not…

The Earth is expected to rotate more rapidly in the coming weeks, and some of our days will be unusually shorter.
