Ben Horowitz will donate Cybertruck Fleet to Las Vegas Police

Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Ben Horowitz has donated the Tesla Cyber Talk fleet to the Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas.

The Cybertruck Fleet is the latest entry on the list of gifts Horowitz gave to the Las Vegas police, a relationship that TechCrunch revealed in detail later last year. Venture capitalists have donated more than $7 million to the department in recent years.

Most of that money is used to buy technology from Andreessen Horowitz portfolio companies. According to a report by TechCrunch, the police department provided Horowitz with the opportunity to consider how the technology was deployed.

Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMcHill announced his Cybertock Gift on February 25th at his annual “state” address. In his speech, he said the track was provided by an anonymous donor and they wouldn’t leave the department’s budget. The Las Vegas Review Journal was first reported that Horowitz and his wife Felicia were behind the gift.

“We want these things because the police inside are safe no matter what. These stop bullets. They’re also an incredible recruiting tool for us,” McMcMhill said in his speech.

McMcHill said on the stage that the division would receive 10 cybertracks, but a spokesman for the unnamed department told TechCrunch that Horowitz had donated 11 people. Horowitz did not respond to requests for comment.

Horowitz’s previous gift to the Las Vegas police was made by donating funds to the department’s nonprofit police foundation. However, in this case, the department told the Las Vegas Review Journal that the donation was not made to the Police Foundation. The department did not answer TechCrunch’s questions about how the donations were made.
