Birmingham won a bid to hold the 18th edition of the European Robot Forum (ERF) in 2027.
More than 1,500 international engineers, researchers, investors, entrepreneurs and policymakers are expected to participate in the event in the European Robotics community.
ICC Birmingham, part of the NEC Group, will hold an event from March 1st to 5th, 2027.
The forum is estimated to be worth £1.55 million for Birmingham and the wider West Midlands visitor economy, and has defeated European destinations such as Belgrade, Brussels, Tallinn and Zurich due to the right to host the event.
The Birmingham bid was won by the regional major ambassadors of Coventry and the University of Birmingham Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and supported the Birmingham and West Midlands Treaty Bureau, part of the West Midlands Growth Company, and part of the ICC Birmingham.
The bid attracted more than 50 supporters, including Minister of Science, Research and Innovation, Lord Patrick Balance, Birmingham City Council and West Midlands combined authorities.
The event was launched in 2010 in San Sebastian, Spain and was established by the Euro Production Association. Recent editions have been held in Denmark (2023), Rimini (2024) in Italy and Stuttgart (2025) in Germany. It has grown into a major annual forum with the aim of enhancing Europe’s competitiveness in the field of robotics.
“We’re a great leader in Birmingham City Council,” said Cllr Sharon Thompson.
