The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has approved $94 million to build more than 500 electric vehicle charging ports for trucks along the state’s busiest trade corridor, demonstrating its efforts to continue the state’s transition to electric vehicles and trucks.

According to an article in the Carter Rubin for the Natural Resources Defense Council, “This investment may seem modest compared to the state’s annual transportation infrastructure budget, but it will increase the number of truck chargers by a whopping 25%.”

Despite retreating from federal electrification assistance, other states can continue their push with such efforts to support major freight corridors and EV infrastructure in their private vehicles, Rubin adds. “Proponents can adjust this strategy to fit the state’s transport financing context by mapping where electrification needs overlap with flexible money. Local mayors and businesses can also be seen to be included in priority EV charging infrastructure projects in local and state transport project pipelines to ensure they are qualified for state and federal funds.”
