Volodymyr Zelenskyy agrees to agree to the meeting proposed by Vladimir Putin.

A faint hope of ending a war of more than three years in Ukraine that killed thousands of civilians and hundreds of thousands of soldiers.

Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky agreed to attend a meeting proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul on Thursday, as long as Putin is directly present.

Putin hopes that the talks will first debate the root causes of the conflict and later address ceasefire negotiations.

His plan is also supported by US President Donald Trump. President Donald Trump said the meeting will help Ukrainian allies, the US and European powers decide whether a ceasefire is possible and the future of war efforts against Russian aggression.

Are Russian leaders trying to distract the growing Western pressure, agreeing to a 30-day unconditional ceasefire or facing “massive sanctions”?

And could a talk hosted by Turkiye make any progress?

Presenter: Cyril Vanier

guest:

Olesia Horiainova – Co-founder of the Ukraine Security Cooperation Centre

Vasily Kashin – Experts at the Council of International Affairs of Russia

Barin Kayaoglu – Assistant Professor and Chair of American Studies, University of Social Sciences, Ankara
