Rockfuel’s true net-zero clean energy solution addresses a critical part of the currently rarely charged net-zero energy transition in terms of scalability and profitability. Essential for the production of these synthetic fuels is Rockfuel’s carbon neutral lime kiln, which unlike traditional lime kilns, efficiently produces speed selection while capturing Co2 emissions. Equipped with renewable energy, the system collects more than 500 cubic meters of limestone per cubic meter and stores it for reuse in Rockfuel’s unique carbon neutral process.
1. Carbon neutral fuel from underground coal beds
Rockfuel’s first major energy breakthrough uses a directional drilling process to access deep underground coal seams without mining. This converts them into clean, synthetic fuels (including kerosene, gasoline, diesel, gas, and LNG), as well as true net zero hydrogen and fertilizer. By reacting underground coal beds with carbon dioxide (produced from Rockfuel’s advanced Limekiln), the system produces a mixture of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane suitable for aviation, shipping, transportation, power generation, gas grid applications, and more.
What makes this process truly net-zero is the integral carbon loop, a carbon reabsorption cycle. The CO released during the combustion of the resulting fuel is absorbed by calcium oxide (CAO), a by-product of the same lime process. When placed in a marine environment, CAOs absorb more carbon than they produce, tilting their balance towards carbon-negative energy production. Furthermore, the electrolysis of high temperature Co₂ from Limekiln converts it into commercially beneficial solid carbon and carbon neutral oxygen.
Financially, this process is very convincing. It is viable at 33% operating profit, ROI of 26% by the fourth year, pre-pandemic fuel prices. With patents already secured, this process is ready for large-scale deployment.
2. Convert polymer waste into clean fuel
Rockfuel’s second energy innovation deals with one of the world’s most urgent environmental issues: plastic waste. The Rockfuel True Net Zero Plastics-to-Fuel process converts polymer waste into clean combustion, carbon-neutral fuels and gases. This involves using new configurations of existing technology and Rockfuel’s core technology to ensure minimal emissions and maximum energy recovery.
