Destination Coventry, Coventry’s Destination Management Organization (DMO), has launched a new Strategic Committee that will help shape the future of the local and local tourism industry.
The organization was founded in 2021 as a collaboration between Coventry City Council and Coventry and the Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce.
The new commercially focused board brings together experts from various tourism industries and sectors with specific skills that represent the strength of the city’s visitor economy.
Over the past six months, under the leadership of Managing Director Paul McMahon, a new partnership marketing approach and brand rebooting and creating a new board of directors signal the next phase of a refreshed business model.
Destination Coventry is looking for a new voluntary chair and up to 15 new board directors, calling for them to join the board, passionate about supporting the next stage of Coventry and Warwickshire’s tourism industry development.
Sector experts are looking to join the board. Includes hotels, meetings, venues, transportation, arts and culture, universities, nighttime economics, sports, digital marketing and accounting experts.
The board also has representatives from local government, destination Coventry, Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and West Midlands Growth Company.
Paul Michael, current chair of Destination Coventry, will maintain his role throughout the recruitment process.
He said: “We look to the future by building a dynamic, skilled, advanced strategic committee that will drive the next phase of development of our destination Coventry and help implement ambitious plans for our visitors economy.”
He added: “Board members play an important role in placing cities and wider regions as world-class destinations for business and leisure tourism.
The board will sit under Coventry and the Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Group, and the Chamber of Commerce leads the recruitment of board members, with all roles being offered regularly and voluntarily for three years starting in July 2025.
