China’s AI Lab Deepseek is planning to open some of its code for its online service as part of its “Open Source Week” event next week.

Deepseek opens five code repositories “documented, deployed and combat-tested in production.” The company said in a post on X on Thursday.

A code repository is the storage location for software development assets and typically contains source code, configuration files and project documentation.

“As part of the open source community, we believe that all the lines shared will be a collective momentum to accelerate the journey,” the company writes. “Daily Unlocking is coming soon. There’s no ivory tower — pure garage energy and community-driven innovation.”

With a history of making AI models openly available under acceptable licenses, Deepseek has launched a fire under existing AI people like Openai. In a recent social media post, Openai CEO Sam Altman acknowledged that Deepseek has reduced Openai’s technical lead, saying Openai will consider procuring opens in the future.
