On Wednesday, Google announced that it could update its discovery page for its flagship search apps to follow certain publishers and creators to express more content from people they like.

The update follows a feature deployed by Google last month, allowing users to choose a news site or blog selection in the Top Stories section of the search results.

Over the next few weeks, Google also shows a variety of content about discovery, including articles from creators and publishers on the web, YouTube shorts, and posts from X and Instagram. Google says it will add more types of sources to this mix in the future.

With these moves, Google has given users more control over their content, expanding its discovery page to include a variety of sources.

However, it is not clear what Google’s criteria is for Google’s content to be displayed on the Discover page. (No answers to questions regarding this were provided prior to publication.)

To use this feature, when viewing content from a specific publisher or author, you can tap on the name to view all content on one page and choose to follow them. Google said it will display more content from the sources you follow.

These announcements come as publishers see traffic plunging due to Google’s AI search. Search Giant launched a product called Offerwall to help publishers earn revenue from non-advertising sources.
