Global Travel Management Company’s Diversity Travel has announced a series of major updates to its online booking tool. This makes it easier for clients to reduce the environmental impact when booking trips.
Latest developments include air switching, carbon offsetting and sustainable hotel filtering.
Diversity Travel claims that these new features are already being used by clients with annual travel costs of over £10 million, and usage is increasing every month.
Improvements to booking tools are one of several investments made in Diversity’s technology solutions, and recently hired new Chief Technology Officer Joanne Bowden, who oversaw these developments.
A reservation tool upgrade is scheduled for later this year.
After 50 countries approved a groundbreaking proposal to strengthen climate action in tourism held at COP29 in November 2024, they further emphasized the need for the travel and tourism sector to further mitigate the environmental impact.
According to Alastair Dickenson, director of environmental action at Diversity Travel, these changes encourage travelers to better equip and encourage more sustainable choices by having more choice and visibility into the impact of choices.
The company has been carbon neutral since 2011, reducing its carbon emissions by 83.9%.
In the announcement, Joanne Bowden said: “Our goal is simple, with defaults and technology playing a major role in sustainable travel. The update reflects our long-term commitment to helping clients reduce travel carbon footprint and make more informed travel decisions.
“We are pleased to make this announcement reaffirming our commitment to sustainability on World Environment Day, but our team will continue to develop booking tools and other technical products all year round.”
