WASHINGTON (AP) — The US education division has scrapped last-minute guidance issued by the Biden administration and threatened to support plans to pay athletes. Name, image, portrait By making these payments subject to the federal government’s Title IX rules.

In a largely anticipated move, President Donald Trump’s education officials announced the change on Wednesday, saying that former President Joe Biden’s inauguration memo had no legal basis. Title IXthe 1972 law prohibits sex discrimination in education.

“The NIL leadership, which was prominently exposed by the Biden administration in the last few days, is overly burdensome, extremely unfair and far beyond what agency guidance is intended to achieve. ”

A January 16 memo from the Biden administration told the university they must be treated the same as athletic financial aid, such as scholarships. Athletic departments across the country have been returned to the drawings.

Football and men’s basketball players were expected to receive the majority of the $20 million that the athletic division will be allowed to distribute from next year’s school year. The university had to understand whether plans needed to be changed to avoid violations of Biden’s policy.

Passed in 1972, Title IX requires that the school pay financial support in proportion to the number of students of each gender playing sports on campus. They also seek to provide schools with the opportunity to play varsity sports proportionate to their gender distribution on campus.

The lawyers differed on whether Biden’s memo provided the scheduled approval for April 7th. House settlementdictates the financial boundaries of NIL payments that are at risk.

Trump education officials said such radical changes would require “clear legal authority” that is not present.

“Title IX, enacted more than 50 years ago, says nothing about how revenue-generating track and field programs should allocate rewards between student-athletes,” the trainer said.

This is the second time the Trump administration has used Title IX to prioritize it in eight days. last week Presidential Order banning transgender athletes It was also Title IX Move, from competition in sports between girls and women. It gives federal agencies the ability to ensure schools receiving federal funds comply with the administration’s views on the law.
