Comments on President Donald Trump’s ethnic cleansing and pushing him into Egypt from Gaza and Jordan could lead to a radical reshaping of regional alliances, analysts say Al Jazeera He spoke to.

Trump repeated his intentions after meeting Abdullah II on Tuesday. He had previously shown that we would use our aid to both countries as leverage to force him to go with his ideas.

It appears that Abdullah II, king of Jordan, had flattered him and tried to appease Trump by pledging him to accept 2,000 sick children from Gaza to Jordan.

“Finally, we see someone who can take us to the finish line and bring stability, peace and prosperity to all of us in our area,” Lord Hashemit told Trump. Trump called the line “music to my ears.”

Both Cairo and Amman have enthusiastically rejected Trump’s comments on many opportunities, with Egypt holding the emergency Arab Summit on February 27th to launch an Arab-led plan to counter Trump’s widely sketched plans. It forms.

Billions of assistance

Both Egypt and Jordan have relied heavily on foreign aid from the US for decades.

Egypt has received more than $87 billion in US foreign aid since 1946, but military and economic aid has increased significantly after signing a peace agreement with Israel in 1979.

The current $1.4 billion in annual military aid that the US gave Egypt was launched in 1979 after the Camp David Agreement was signed between Egypt and Israel.

Today, Egypt is one of the highest recipients of US foreign aid in the Middle East, after Israel.

Foreign aid from the US also plays an important role in Jordan.

Israel and Jordan signed the Wadiaraba Treaty in 1994, establishing diplomatic, tourism and trade relations between the two countries that laid the foundation for Jordan to receive billions of dollars in US aid as debt relief.

The US is currently giving Jordan $1.72 billion annually in bilateral foreign aid.

Jordan has been shaking from a $770 million cut in economic aid from USAID, funding Jordanian ministries, including education and public works, and helping the country’s water security.

This funding is a major part of ensuring Egyptian and Jordanian economies functioning, but it also helps with the US regional agenda.

Jordan has long been a pro-western partner and has been a stabilizing role, buffering Israel from Iran and its proxies, hosting refugees, fighting terrorism and extremism, and is strong and trustworthy against the West. It serves as an ally,” Dima Tukan, a non-resident scholar at the Middle East Institute, told Al Jazeera.

According to the Egyptian government-supported foreign policy provisions, Egypt provides US promotion in regions “including the movement of US military assets through priority passage of the Suez Canal and priority passage of Egyptian territory.” I’m doing it.

According to a Congressional report, US military aid fiscal Egypt will financially assist in purchasing weapons systems from US defense contractors, and military aid to Egypt as an indirect form of subsidy to US defense contractors. I’m here.

“As a key lever for soft power, AID allows the US to use influence, manage its image and develop a common interest,” says Toukan.

A big hole in your budget

According to analysts, Trump’s forced plan to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Gaza raises concerns about Egypt’s stability.

For Jordan, these fears are “existential” as analysts said. Much of Jordan’s population is already of Palestinian origin, and Jordan’s adoption of another million will have a profound impact on many of the country’s demographics and national identity issues.

To avoid being forced to do so, Egypt and Jordan have made other locations for funding, such as Gulf allies and US competitors for global influences like Russia and China. You might start looking for it.

“If the US insists on withdrawing aid, other groups and countries will certainly want to fill this gap,” Tukan told Al Jazeera.

China’s influence in Egypt has grown over the past decade, with 2025 being called “the year of Egyptian-China partnerships” by two states.

The GCC state opposes Trump’s proposal to clean up ethnic cleansing, and countries enjoying close ties with Jordanian King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdelfatta Elsisi are now likely to close the funding gap. You may decide that it is in the interest of.

But even if that was the case, it’s unlikely that the billion-dollar hole in their financial resources will be completely covered. , the politics of marriage between Islam and Jordan: affection and mercy told Al Jazeera.

“It also directly hits security equipment and makes everything more difficult because so much of the aid is routed through the military and police.”
