Democrats have expressed concern that Tesla’s CEO is trying to weaponize tax systems against his rivals.

Elon Musk’s task force to streamline the US government is seeking access to a horde of taxpayer information, media reports, urging fear of privacy violations and retaliation against political rivals .

In the latest phase of his drastic cost-cutting drive, Musk and his so-called Government Efficiency Bureau (DOGE) have been working to an outlet that includes the Associated Press, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) protected integrated data retrieval system (IDR). We are promoting access. , CNN, The New York Times and the Washington Post reported on Monday.

IDRS gives IRS employees access to confidential taxpayer data belonging to millions of Americans, including Social Security numbers, family addresses, real estate records, and payroll information.

Doge had not yet accessed the system as of Sunday evening, several media outlets reported.

White House spokesman Harrison Fields said direct access to the IRS database is required to eradicate “deeply entrenched” waste, fraud and abuse.

“Doges will continue to shed light on the scams they are revealing because Americans deserve to know what their government has spent their hard-earned taxes,” Fields said.

The move is a move that has led to the Democratic lawmakers and other critics of US President Donald Trump’s administration amid concerns that Musk, the world’s wealthiest person, controls a wider federal region with little surveillance. I’ve been wary of this.

In a letter to the IRS Monday, Democrats Sen. Ron Wyden and Elizabeth Warren will weaponize tax systems to help Musk target US citizens and businesses as part of the political agenda He expressed concern that this is the case.

“The IRS must immediately disclose to the Finance Senate Committee the full scope of potential access to IRS systems and data granted to IRS team members, so the committee is DOGE representatives. “We will be able to deal with any effort to access the IRS taxpayer records. This could constitute a criminal violation of federal privacy laws,” Wyden and Warren writes.

On Monday, Musk appeared to be showing his intention to use taxpayer data to target Trump’s political opponents in a post on social media platform X.

In a post in response to Democrat Sen. Adam Schiff, Tesla and SpaceX CEOs say they want to “snoop” the finances of California lawmakers rather than members of the general public, Tesla and SpaceX CEOs say they’re in the index emojis I shared the post with. Point your finger down.

Meanwhile, a new X account called the Doge IRS has asked public members to share “insights on searching and rectifying waste, fraud and abuse” on the IRS.
