Hackers have reportedly penetrated the FBI’s network.
CNN reported Thursday, citing anonymous sources, that the breach affected systems used to manage wiretaps and foreign intelligence surveillance warrants.
“The FBI identified and responded to suspicious activity on the FBI network. We responded using all of our technical capabilities,” a spokesperson for the agency told TechCrunch, without providing further details.

This is the latest major breach of a US government agency and a US company. Last year, Chinese hackers broke into the U.S. Treasury Department and the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees the security of the U.S. nuclear stockpile. All the while, Russian hackers were stealing sealed records from the U.S. court filing system. Elon Musk’s DOGE also defied long-standing national security practices and controlled American citizens’ personal data in violation of federal protocol, despite warnings from senators that Musk posed a national security risk.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government’s hacking group Salt Typhoon has infiltrated at least 200 American companies, according to the FBI. Companies confirmed to have been hacked include telecommunications providers AT&T and Verizon, as well as Lumen, Charter Communications, and Windstream.
