Former Brazilian president, Jia Bolsonaro posted an update on his health on social media after undergoing a sixth abdominal surgery in 2018 that he said was linked to a stab wound he endured on the campaign trail.
On Tuesday, the far-right leader who fought shared a video of himself walking down the hospital corridor, a video of an electrode being taped to his bare chest, pedestrians stabilizing the stairs. A team of medical staff was pinned between him on both sides.
“Don’t give up! Let’s move forward, Brazil!” Bolsonaro wrote the caption along with the video.
In the second message, he explained that he is relatively isolated due to his sensitive condition. Following the advice of his doctor, he said he only interacts with his family and medical professionals to get “maximum attention” during his recovery.
“I’m continuing to focus on the recovery process, which was, from what I understand, the most invasive procedure that has ever happened,” he said.
Last Friday, Bolsonaro announced that he was forced to cancel a rally in the northeastern part of Rio Grande do Norte, northeastern Brazil, after suffering from “severe abdominal pain” caused by “small abdominal pain” due to “complications of the small intestine.”
The 70-year-old was first hospitalized at Algio Bezera Municipal Hospital in Santa Cruz, then at the time at Rio Grande Hospital in Natal, before being transferred to the capital, Brasilia.
His most recent surgery was performed on Sunday at DF Star Hospital. The procedure lasted for 12 hours, according to the president and his allies.
In his latest update pair, Bolsonaro swipes over a rival in the Workers’ Party known as the PT. He emphasized that in September 2018 his stab wounds “had come into the hands of former PSOL members. [the Socialism and Liberty Party]PT’s historic ally.”
Bolsonaro’s allegations repeatedly without evidence that they praised the attack that took place when the left-wing leader was carried through a crowd of crowds during a campaign rally at the Juiz de Fora. Brazilian federal police have not found a link between the PT and the attack.
However, Bolsonaro has long been accused of spreading conspiracy theories, particularly because it relates to his election rivals.
In both 2018 and 2022, while following the campaign trajectory, he spread rumors that Brazilian e-voting machines were unreliable and were rife-delaying with scams.
These comments were barred from detaining public office until 2030, and the judiciary of Brazil’s excellent election courts found that the president abused power to create fear about the voting system.
Bolsonaro served as president of Brazil from 2019 to 2022. Since his retirement, he has faced a series of legal battles, including whether he took part in the efforts to destabilise his successor, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, in his government.
Lula is a member of the PT Party and in October 2022 he slightly defeated Bolsonaro in a leaked election to win his third non-continued term as president.
However, the confusion shook the post-election period. Media reports show that he did so personally, but Bolsonaro refused to publicly admit his defeat. Nevertheless, his supporters blocked the road and stormed the police headquarters in Brasilia to prevent Lula from taking power.
Bolsonaro and his allies also tried to challenge the outcome in court, but Judge Alexandre de Moraise discovered that their complaints were being made with “complete malicious” and fined $4.3 million.
Tension reached boiling point shortly after Lula’s inauguration. On January 8, 2023, thousands of mobs descended on the home of three Powers Plazas in Brasilia, the Congress, the Supreme Court and government buildings for the presidency.
There, they clashed with the police, destroying several buildings, destroying windows, furniture and decorations.
Lula calls the attack an attempt at a coup and seeks justice. Bolsonaro was in Florida at the time of the January 8 attack, but critics accused him and his allies of secretly pushing the army to overthrow Lula.
On March 26, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered Bolsonaro to withstand a trial that allegedly led an attempted coup.
Federal police issued an 884-page report last November as Bolsonaro and 36 others allegedly engaged in a criminal conspiracy that allegedly killed his vice president, Justice De Moraes, Lula.
According to the accusations, the idea was to create a situation in which the caretaker government was created and Bolsonaro returned to power.
Prosecutors filed multiple charges against Bolsonaro. Meanwhile, Bolsonaro maintains his innocence and says he is a victim of political persecution.
