Fredsense has announced the closure of a $7 million Series A funding round for pioneering PFA testing using field-based PFAS detectors.
Fredsense’s equipment is the first commercially available field-based PFAS detector and is early adopted in a variety of industries, including environmental consulting and services, water and wastewater treatment, energy and general industrial operations.
The Series A funding round was led by HG Ventures and participated from Emerald Technology Ventures.
By replacing long lab turnaround times with same-day answers onsite, Fredsense allows onsite teams to identify contamination hot spots, check for cleanup, and optimize treatments more efficiently and at a lower cost.
“Our mission is simple. Make PFAS testing quick, accessible and feasible,” said David Lloyd, CEO of Fredsense. “With the support of HG Ventures and Emerald, we will be able to expand production, deepen customer support, continue to improve our products, and enable more sites to get answers on the spot.”
Industry support for Fredsense’s rapid PFAS detectors
Ginger Rothrock, senior director at HG Ventures, commented: “Communities and businesses need to cleaner water, faster responses and reduce delays. Fredsense places lab-level insights in the hands of field teams.
“We are proud to lead the rounds and support Fred Sense as they scale.”
“Fredsense brings much needed speed and practicality to the PFAS test,” added Clayton McDougaldo, Emerald’s investment director and newly appointed member of the Fredsense Board of Directors.
“If we can get reliable results on the same day, we’ll make better decisions, get work done faster and cut costs. We’re excited to support this team with HGVentures.”
The future of PFAS testing
Fredsense is building towards the long-term relevance of PFAs in a highly important marketplace where they sit at the intersection of economic opportunities amid the issue of environmental urgency, human health concerns, regulatory enforcement and multi-billion dollar global issues.
FredSense represents an attractive opportunity for players in the PFAS space with the benefits of first driving, increased commercial traction and scalable business models to strengthen their portfolios and meet regulatory and customer demands in search of differentiated tools.
