WASHINGTON (AP) — The dean of Georgetown Law School refused an unusual warning from federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. Diversity, equity, inclusion program.

Dean William Trenor told us attorney Ed Martin that the First Amendment prohibits the government from determining what Georgetown teachers are teaching and how to teach them.

“The constitutional violations behind this threat are clear given the freedom of universities to determine their own curriculum and the First Amendment protections to how they can be provided.

The exchange between Martin and Dean is not the first time conservative activists have used his office as a platform to parrot the political priorities of the Republican president who gave him a job in January.

Martin, introducing himself with one of President Donald Trump’s lawyers, rolled his office Dismissal and demoted lawyer He indicted Trump supporters for storming the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. Martin promoted unfounded claims of Trump’s election fraud in the 2020 presidential election, representing the riot defendant on January 6 before taking office.

His “investigation letter” to Georgetown is also woven into Trump’s agenda. On his first day back in the White House, Trump signed an executive order ending the federal government’s DEI program.

In a letter dated February 17th, when emailed to the dean on March 3rd, Martin said the whistleblower informed him that Georgetown Law School “continues to promote and teach DEI.”

“This is unacceptable,” he wrote.

Martin warned the dean that his office would not consider Georgetown law students about jobs, summer internships or fellowships.

Trenner said Georgetown was “established on the principle that serious and sustained discourse among people of various faiths, cultures and beliefs promotes intellectual, ethical and spiritual understanding.”

“Your letter challenges Georgetown’s ability to define our mission as an educational institution,” he writes.

Treanor said, “We look forward to ensuring that Georgetown candidates for employment in your office receive full and fair considerations.”

Another Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee asked Thursday. Disciplinary Advisory Bureau Investigating them in Washington “Serious Concerns” Martin may have been engaged in professional misconduct since taking office. In a letter to the office, the senator accused Martin of repeatedly mistreating his position, including “intimidating government employees and using prosecutor threats to cool the speeches of civilians.”

“Mr. Martin’s actions don’t just speak to his fitness as an attorney. His activities are part of a broader course of action by President Trump and his allies to undermine the traditional independence of the Department of Justice’s investigation and prosecution and the rule of law,” the senator wrote.

A spokesman for Martin’s office did not comment on Georgetown’s letter and did not respond to another request for comment on the Senator’s letter.
