Last year, Google debuted a new age video editor called Vids for Google Workspace Productivity Suite. On Wednesday, the company added new features such as AI avatars, automatic transcript cropping and inter-image tools. They also release free features for consumers with limited functionality.

This version of the editor has basic editing controls along with access to Google’s template library, font collections and stock media libraries, but does not provide AI functionality at this time.

In the business world, startups like Synthesia and D-ID provide businesses with access to AI avatars and related tools for creating training and educational videos. Google is debuting similar features for workspace customers through VIDS. The core pitch is the same. If you don’t have enough budget to create a video, use AI tools to create one.

Users can post scripts and create videos by selecting avatars from different voices and personas. Google announced the AI avatar feature at Google I/O in May, and released it in beta. Currently, this feature is reaching general availability.

Google has also added a video editing feature that automatically detects filler words such as “UM” and “AH” and automatically detects Long Daposes. Click on these words or pause to delete them and the editor will adjust the video accordingly.

The company launched its VEO 3 image-to-video generation function in July. We are currently adding that feature to Vids, which allows users to create 8-second video clips.

Apart from these features, Google said it is working on supporting backgrounds and effects like noise cancellation, Google Meet, and new sizing formats such as portraits, landscapes and squares. However, the company did not specify these release dates.
