Google’s new AI features let you try on clothes virtually

On Thursday, Google announced that it will launch a new AI feature that allows users to virtually try on clothes. Tech Giant will also roll out updated price alerts to tease upcoming features and allow users to explore shopping outfits and room inspiration using Generative Imagery.

Two months after Google began testing, the official release of the Virtual Tryon feature will be made. This feature works by allowing users to upload photos of themselves and virtually try out the clothing.

This feature is launched in the US today, and try out apparel items on Google Shopping Graphs across search, Google Shopping with Google Images, and product results.

To use this feature, users must tap on the product list or apparel product results and select the On-On icon. From there, they need to upload a full-length photo of themselves. After that, they can see what may appear to be dressed. Users can save their looks and share them with their friends.

Google previously offered virtual Tryon technology, but previous features focused on displaying items on a wide range of models’ bodies. With this new feature, the company is requiring users to try out their clothing with a virtual version of their bodies.

It will be launched as Google is investing in virtual Tryon space. Last month, Tech Giant launched an experimental app called DOPPL that uses AI to visualize how different outfits look to you.

A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch that both the new Try-On feature and DOPPL feature the same generator AI technology, but the app is designed to allow shoppers to go even deeper with virtual trions and to curate personal styles. Furthermore, DOPPL can create AI-generated videos, allowing users to get a better sense of what outfits look like in real life.

Regarding new price alerts, users can now specify the amount they want to spend on items. Starting today, US shoppers can set product alerts and specify the size and color they like, as well as the price they want to pay.

“The Shopping Graph has all the products and prices across the web, so we’ll let you know if there are offers that meet the criteria,” said Danielle Buckley, Google’s Director of Consumer Shopping, in a blog post. “We’re not always going to check if the bag you’re paying attention to is the right price for you in the end, or if you forget to return to the products you love.”

Google says users will be able to access this fall regarding future features for inspiration for costume and room design. It lets users get style inspo for dresses like green flow for garden parties or do things like bedroom design ideas.

Tech Giant says Vision Match technology will generate various visual options for queries and use 50 billion products in the shopping graph to display a product list for visual matches.
