The Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (RPOSD) has launched a record $58 million competitive grant program to invest in parks, trails and open spaces throughout the county. This historic initiative is the largest grant program in RPOSD history and is designed to support community-driven, climate-smart, shovel-enabled projects. A minimum of 30% of funds will be allocated to areas identified as high or very high park needs, paying more attention to rural and historically underserved communities.

RPOSD Director Norma E. Garcia Gonzalez emphasized that the program is beyond fundraising. It promises to deliver voter-approved priorities and ensure fair access to quality park spaces. The investment is based on the $45 million awarded over the past two years, along with the acquisition of the park-deficient community, wildfire recovery efforts and the 623-acre new Parkland acquisition. This latest funding continues the county’s momentum to advance park equity and climate resilience.

The 2025 Competitive Grant Program includes three categories: $18 million for planning and design to prepare projects for future implementation. $24 million for natural land, local beaches and water conservation to support ecological recovery and water quality. $16 million expands connectivity and comprehensive access to local recreation and trails. Through this initiative, RPOSD aims to have a lasting impact on communities across Los Angeles County.
