The Pakistan Champions Trophy is hit by news that injured batter Fakar Zaman will miss the rest of the tournament.

Host Pakistan took a serious blow to their Champions Trophy hopes when opener Fakar Zaman was removed from the rest of the tournament with injuries prior to the clash with Archrivals India.

The 34-year-old left-handed batsman has been replaced by Imam ul-Haq, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Thursday.

Zaman sprained his chest muscles during fielding at the start of Pakistan’s match against New Zealand in Karachi on Wednesday.

He couldn’t open the innings because he played the rules and instead batted at No. 4, showing signs of discomfort, creating a troublesome 41-ball 24.

Zaman plays 86 ODIs, averaging just over 46.

“I have been privileged to be proud to represent Pakistan multiple times,” he wrote on social media.

“Unfortunately, I’ve just come out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and certainly Allah is the best planner. I’d like to thank you for the opportunity.

“I support the boys from home with the greens. This is just the beginning, and the comeback is stronger than the retreat.”

After Wednesday’s defeat in the opening match of the tournament, the Defending Champions Pakistan must create the possibility of reaching the semi-finals by defeating India in Group A Dubai on Sunday.

Bangladesh is the other teams in Group A, with Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan making up Group B in 50-over tournaments.

The top two teams in each group will be eligible for the final four.
