New Zealand has won 60 Champions Trophy Opener as Pakistani hosts watch the top-order crumble in Karachi.

New Zealand hosted Pakistan, highlighting the champion’s trophy aspirations in 60 wins against defending the cricket champions in a Group A match at the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan.

Will Young hit a 107, Tom Latham destroyed an undefeated 118 and posted 320-5 after New Zealand overcomes a slow start on Wednesday and was put into the bat.

Glenn Phillips tipped with an active 61 as New Zealand violated the 300 mark.

Pakistan was all out in 260 in 47.2 overs, when Babar Azam (64) and Kushdir Shah (69) won half a century, but the hosts never saw the hunt.

“The way Young and Latham spin the strike and achieved strange boundaries really set us,” said New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner.

“We were thinking about 260-280, but it shows what we can do if we have the platform and wicket in our hands. After we got the score, the first 10 overs got the ball.”

Santner and Will O’Rourke both claimed three wickets for the Kiwi, and even Pakistani cameo No. 7 Kushdir Shah was 69-49-69, too late after the hosts suffered a slow start I did.

Fakhar Zaman was injured early in the first inning and had to be replaced on the scene.

As a result, the opening batter was not allowed to re-enter the match until his side went down two in the pursuit.

That seriously hindered the hosts who were 22-2 at the end of the power play.

Pakistani skipper Mohammad Rizwan said he’s confident when throwing and inserting New Zealand. “They made a very good target,” he said. “We didn’t think they would get 320. When we took the early wickets, we thought about 260 or so.

“It wasn’t easy to hit the pitch early, but Young and Latham’s innings were very important. Our execution in the final overs wasn’t good, so they made that score. Ta.”

This is a three-straight loss in Pakistan’s home soil in the one-day International against New Zealand, and now pressures the second match in the group against India on Sunday.

Tournament favourite Rohit Sharma India will open an account for Bangladesh on Thursday.
