The Celtic Collection and ICC Wales have appointed Julie Hammond as the group’s new CEO.
Hammond replaces Ian Edwards, who passed away in October 2024 after a period of illness. The Celtic Manor Resort, part of the collection, later renamed the Conference Centre after Edwards in honor of the group’s longtime chief.
Hammond is currently responsible for the UK’s latest convention centre and the largest independent hotel group in Wales. She assumes responsibility for developing business strategies and driving revenue and profitability growth across both businesses.
Hammond, who has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, recently oversaw the Cumberland Hotel in central London as general manager. Previously, he was the asset manager at the L+R Hotel, which includes Chewton Glen, Cliveden House, Fairmont Monte Carlo and group commercial directors for the Ralph Council.
She also has experience in hospitality in Welsh and manages a hotel in Voco St David, Cardiff Bay.
Hammond said: “I am pleased to use this opportunity to build the incredible work already underway to establish the Celtic collection as Wales’ largest independent hotel group, and to build ICC Wales as the UK’s most exciting new convention centre. The vision and ambition of owner, Sir Terry Matthews, is that continuing to grow the group is a special draw for me and I look forward to developing existing assets and seeking opportunities for further expansion.”
Opened in 2019, ICC Wales has already hosted many prestigious events, including the British Space Conference, the Royal College of Nursing Congress and the National Association of Principals’ Conference. In 2026, the world’s largest culinary event will become the first venue in the UK, and we welcome the performance of WorldChefs Congress and Expo.
