Sarah Duterte has been bounced off for suspicious crimes, including threatening the president’s life and violating the constitution and corruption.
Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte is measuring his run for the presidency as he prepares to fight each.
In her first public comment since the country’s House of Representatives approved the blast each this week, the 46-year-old said on Friday that the case was in her lawyer’s hands, and her father, the 79-year-old ex. The president added lawyer Rodrigo Duterte, who is welcome to join her defense team “if he wants.”
“The legal team is still preparing for defense and (we’re (decided) to move forward,” she said.
Duterte said she had no thoughts about resignation. “We’re not there yet,” the Vice President added that the possibility of running for president in 2028 remains firmly at the table.
“We’re seriously considering it, but it’s hard to decide without numbers, so we need to research and know the numbers, but that’s still next year,” she said.
The country’s House of Representatives fired Duterte on Wednesday, accusing her of breaching constitutional and corrupt negligence, threatening the lives of First Lady and House Speaker Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
She denied any misconduct and reiterated that she did not pose a threat of assassination on Friday.
The Senate now has to control whether or not she will take her out of office. The support of two-thirds of the Senator in the trial is necessary for her to be found guilty and removed from her post.
Duterte told journalists he couldn’t tell them whether they would secure enough votes for an acquittal.
“The only thing I can say at this point is that God will save the Philippines.”
