Interested in harmony but not ready to reveal your credit card details? You’re not alone. The good news is that this dating site gives fairly generous coverage to non-paying members.

In fact, there are very few elements of the user interface that are completely restricted to paid accounts. So if you want to see how the site operates and its focus on evaluating matches, we recommend testing it out with a free account.

Here’s what you can and can’t do with your free eharmony account.

Connection app that anyone can use

adult friend finder

— Top picks for finding a date

hinge

— A popular choice for regular meet-ups

What you can do with a free account

Create and fill out your profile

A free account allows you to create a profile, upload a photo, and fill out important facts about yourself, from whether you have children to what you like to do in your free time. You can also take eharmony’s unique personality quiz. This quiz is used by the site to compare you to other members and assign a “compatibility score” to potential matches.

Apply (some) search criteria

In the ‘Discover’ section of the site, eharmony shows you the profiles of a variety of singles that fit your match criteria, helping you narrow down your search for love. However, if you are a free member, the number of filters you can apply is limited.

These include height range, age range, whether you smoke, whether you have children, etc. However, if you upgrade to a premium account, you’ll get even more filter options, including ethnicity, religion, income range, and education level.

And most frustratingly, while members with free accounts can choose which region of the country they want their profiles to appear in, they can’t filter their profiles by distance, while paid members can choose to only see people within a certain distance of their location.

Read profile profile

Although a free account doesn’t give you full access to a user’s profile, you can usually get a complete idea of what a person is like, as they display all important details such as hobbies, marital status, gender, location, height and body shape, and even dating preferences.

Please verify your account

To authenticate your eharmony account, follow these steps:

Click the “SMS Verification” button on your profile.

Enter your mobile phone number and click “Start SMS Verification”.

Receive a verification code via text

Enter the verification code on the eharmony prompt screen

After following the steps above, you will see a verification symbol on your profile. It’s like a little vote of trust that allows potential matches to trust the authenticity of your account.

get a match

Free accounts are just like paid accounts.[ディスカバリー]section and are allowed to like and dislike others, so don’t be surprised if you start receiving notifications that other people you liked have shown interest.

But there’s a catch… there’s still a lot you can’t do with a free account.

What you can’t do with a free account

View profile photo

This might not be a problem if you’re into blind dates, but the average online dater wants to see what their match or potential match is like, and while Harmony blurs the profile picture on non-paying accounts, it’s not enough to completely hide the photo — you can usually see the shape of the face and even hair color — but it’s enough to heighten the mystery.

start chat

If you’re a non-paying member, you can always send a message when you like an account, which is a great way to increase your chances of matching. You can also send Icebreak, eharmony’s interactive photo-pairing game, to your match to start a conversation, but you can’t actually exchange messages without providing credit card details.

Even worse, if someone happens to like your profile and you send them a message, you won’t be able to read them unless you upgrade your account. This can become very annoying when the person you’ve been eyeing finally shows up in your inbox.

This is why eharmony’s free account is really a “trap”. Because even though there’s quite a bit you can do for free on the site, you actually have to upgrade to reap the benefits of your efforts.
