Air strikes arrive the day after Houssis lined up in Iran launched a missile that had hit near a major Israeli airport.

Israeli forces say they carried out airstrikes at Yemen’s Hodeida port and cement factory, claiming that the site was used to support Houthi’s operations against Israel.

Monday’s strike injured at least 21 people, said Anees Al-Asbahi, a spokesman for the Houthirun Ministry of Health.

The fighters attacked Houchys-linked infrastructure, including a cement factory east of Hodeida, which is described as a “critical economic resource” used to build tunnels and military infrastructure.

“The port of Hodeida will serve as a hub for transferring Iranian weapons and equipment for military needs,” the Israeli military said in a statement. Claims could not be verified independently.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that six Israeli strikes hit the port of Hodeidah, denounced both Israel and the United States.

Axios journalist Barak Ravid cited a senior US official.

A US defense source said “The US military did not participate in Yemen’s strike today,” but did not deny the possibility that non-fatal support was provided.

The attack comes after ballistic missiles fired from Yemen on Sunday were attacked near Ben Gurion International Airport, outside Tel Aviv.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to retaliate against the Houthi attack, the first known missile to avoid interception since Yemeni groups began targeting Israel in November 2023.

“New stages” in Israel’s attacks on Yemen

Al Jazeera correspondent Ali Hashem reported that around 30 Israeli fighter jets took part in the operation on Monday.

Hashem said the strike in Israel’s attack on Yemen would mark a “new stage.”

Since US President Donald Trump returned to power in January, the US has embarked on a more aggressive attack on Yemen.

This is not the first time Israel has bombed Yemeni targets. In December, air raids struck the RAS ISA oil terminal and other sites in Hodeida, killing at least nine people.

While Houthi-Raunched projectiles are being intercepted, Sunday’s attack was “the most important strike,” Hashem said. The group said it would launch a campaign in November 2023 to respond to Israeli war with Gaza and show solidarity with the Palestinians. Last year, a drone had previously collided with a Tel Aviv building.

Since November 2023, Housis, also known as Ansar Allah, has launched over 100 drone and missile attacks targeting ships that it said are linked to Israel in the Red Sea.

Houthis suspended the attack this year during a ceasefire in Gaza, but resumed its operation in March after Israel cut off humanitarian assistance to Gaza and resumed its attack.
