The season ended on that particular night when everyone rushed out of their homes and lingered on the streets all day and night, and spring has finally come (well, it’s really spring this time). Yes, I live in a city and it often smells bad, but lately, thanks to all the flowers blooming, it has become very fragrant.

If there’s anything that inspires you to take a moment to escape and free your mind, let this change of season be it. The first thing I recommend is always going out with friends. we will never regret it. Once you’re back indoors, you can use your free time to continue your escape by following these three recommendations.

If you have…

Want to know how the internet influences legacy media and vice versa? Start with Diljit Dosanjh’s performance on The Tonight Show. It’s such a banger that you’ll want to know what your kids are hearing coming out of their cars this summer.

Last month, Punjabi musician Dosanjh returned to The Tonight Show to perform his collaboration ‘Morni’ with Punjabi Canadian artiste Chani Nattan, which caused a stir. Weeks later, it’s still being reshared. Comments on social media ranged from “the pride we all feel” to “I could watch it all day and still not understand a word” (to which Dosanjh responded with a heart emoji).

From his couch, Dosanjh talked about how he felt playing a sold-out show at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium, just around the corner from where the Komagata Maru was refused entry to Canada in 1914. Due to racism built into immigration laws at the time, the ship’s passengers from India were barred from entering the country and turned back on another long journey that ended in tragedy. Is a global pop star coolly shouting out national shame and making the world dance? Yes, he wins. we love seeing it.

Watch Netflix’s gardening show Apples with your cheeky kids

Zach Galifianakis from “This Is a Gardening Show.”Netflix

Always wanting to share a few minutes of activities with kids, I turned to my 12-year-old and asked, “Do you want to watch a show? It’s about gardening.” The immediate answer was, “But you don’t even garden.” Touchet said. But if it’s a show about gardening, you can definitely watch it. I know I can do it (yes, she was watching it with me and I caught her giggling).

Netflix knew what they were doing when they released Zach Galifianakis’ This is a Gardening Show a full month before the May long weekend, the official start of season for all gardeners. This is a show for eco-friendly people of all levels. The irreverent and lovable Zach Galifianakis has been gardening for 25 years (who knew?) and shares his curiosity as he learns about things like grafting trees and how to properly water tomato plants.

Since the early days of streaming, I’ve devoured all kinds of shows, with the possible exception of this one, the cozy shows, the kind you turn to for solace. More plotting is usually required. Not this time. With gentle humor, down-to-earth (yes, I said that) instruction, and adorable kid cameos, this is a show that hits the spot.

Travel back in time and listen to the 2026 Update: Sky, the Heavyweight Podcast

In this episode of Heavyweight, Skye, encouraged by her 11-year-old son, enlists the help of host Jonathan Goldstein to help her figure out why her childhood friend suddenly turned against her and angrily graffitied her parents’ house with profanity.

“Heavyweight” is Goldstein’s show that tries to help people face problems from their pasts by mediating reunions and difficult conversations. It’s always been the perfect use of this medium. Real people have loved Goldstein’s gruff voice since his CBC radio bugging days. Heavyweight, now in its 10th season, is revisiting past episodes with updates.

This episode with Sky was first released in 2018, and as I listened, I found myself wondering, “Have I heard this before?” I’m menopausal so I don’t remember what happened last week, but it doesn’t matter anyway. My jaw was on the ground at the time when the details of what this girl gang had done to Skye were revealed.

There’s nothing like the hilarious brutality of a group of kids. The big question is why? This is what Skye, her son, and Goldstein are trying to uncover, and this episode is Goldstein in her element, funny, tender, and encouraging. Seeing how Skye and her adult son reflect on this conversation in real life is a nice afterthought that reminds us that we all can heal over time. Sometimes it is necessary to face the wounds of the past together.
