With Mohamed Sarah signing a contract extension at Liverpool on Friday, manager Arne Slot wants to tie the futures of defenders Virgil van Dik and Trent Alexander Arnold to help Premier League leaders finish the season strongly.
The club said forward Sara, whose deal is due to expire in June, has signed a new extension at Anfield for another two years.
Hope is building for Liverpool Captain Van Dick while fans are excited by the news. He is out of contract at the end of the season and is being leaned to extend his stay, but fullback Alexander Arnold has linked himself with Real Madrid.
“We’re always choosing to expand our Star Player options if we want to sign players or keep players,” Slot told a press conference before Sunday’s match.
“In general, people think of me as relaxed. [club owners] FSG. So I’m really calm.
“They do what’s best for the club, if it’s extended, otherwise they’ll find a solution.
“I also talked to MO and followed the process. It gave me confidence. It would be helpful to sort them before the end of the season.”

Will you ever come from Liverpool and Sarah?
Slot added that Sarah’s decision proves that the Egyptians believe the club can compete for more trophies by reaching the Premier League title this season and taking a 10-point lead at the top of the rankings.
“He’s always been judged as a player, but I see him as a person, he’s humble, he works hard and he’s very hard to become a player. He keeps that effort every day,” Slot said.
“Sara can score goals if he’s not at his best half hour or 15 minutes. So he’s mentally strong. He has to be mentally strong, and apart from the rest, that’s probably what stands out for me.
“What it might say to you is that it’s not only a good season now, but they want more of the next season, and MO is sure we can do that, so it’s positive for us.”

West Ham is 16th at the table (just two in the relegation zone), winning only nine of his 31 games.
