London-based AI startup NSCALE is seeking $2.7 billion to work with Bytedance to build a global data center with the aim of driving the next wave of AI development.

NSCALE, released by Stealth in May 2024, has already set your eyesight high. According to a provided document seen by Bloomberg, the company hopes to raise a significant $2.7 billion to build an artificial intelligence infrastructure. The plan is linked to a pending partnership with Bytedance Ltd., the Chinese technology giant behind Tiktok.

“NSCALE is a less than a year startup, already raising around $2.7 billion to build an artificial intelligence infrastructure behind its pending partnership with Bytedance Ltd.

As NSCALE continues, the money will be directed towards setting up data centers around the world packed with NVIDIA chips. These facilities are leased to companies like bytedance to train and operate AI models.

The move comes just four months after NSCALE pulled $155 million in Series A funding. The round, led by Sandton Capital, is aimed at fostering expansion in Europe and North America with support from Kestrel 0x1, Blue Sky Capital Managers Ltd and Florence Capital.

Nscale is more than just another data center company. We will build sustainable AI-centric facilities, deploy large-scale GPU infrastructure, and provide AI cloud services. The company’s full stack approach – handling both data center design and GPU supercluster infrastructure can improve the speed, performance and efficiency of AI workloads.

The Nscale platform is built to support the entire lifecycle of generated AI projects. Developers can run and train models on bare metal or virtualized GPU nodes, tap Kubernetes-Native Services (NKS), manage AI workloads with SluRM-driven scheduling, and choose serverless or dedicated guessing options. NSCALE is set to launch public cloud delivery in Q1 2025, providing developers with flexible access to inference and training tools built specifically for AI.

Since leaving stealth mode in May 2024, Nscale has seen great demand. The pipeline for the Greenfield Data Center Project in Europe and North America is planned to be 120MW in 2025, expanding from 300MW to 1.3GW.

These upcoming sites are specifically built to handle large supercluster deployments for hyperscalers and businesses running large language models. Nscale is betting on next-generation technologies, such as closed-loop direct liquid cooling, to maximize performance while keeping environmental impacts low. With this setup, the company says it is ready to offer custom GPU clusters at any scale, including government, growing AI startups, and global companies.

“The AI market is expanding rapidly, and so is ours,” commented Joshua Payne, CEO of Nscale. “NSCALE manages every layer of infrastructure within the value chain to meet the intensive needs of large AI customers. In particular, the biggest risk to the ability to scale the market is the large power tranches needed to strengthen these large GPU superclusters.”

Payne added: “NSCALE has a 1.3GW pipeline of its portfolio sites, which allows end-to-end designs for data centers, super clusters and cloud environments to be designed for customers. It has many customers worldwide with a bespoke design, sustainable and cost-effective AI infrastructure that unlocks new AI features, products and services.”

If NSCALE can pull out this $2.7 billion funding target, it will soon map the company as one of the most ambitious new players in AI infrastructure and as a serious candidate in an area looking to gain even more competitiveness.
