A study published by City Hall shows that London is the world leader when it comes to hosting sporting events. The report found that the sporting event contributed £230 million to London’s economy in 2024.
The City Hall report focused on five major sporting events in London in 2024.

These events attracted approximately half a million fans and 2 million viewers from around the world. This is thanks to the popularity of the NLF, where the NLF in London attracted 200m viewers in 2024, raising a total of £600 million in audience spending since 2007.
To add, a poll from YouGov found that 62% of Londoners are proud to have major sporting events held in the city.
Sir Sadiq Khan commented: “London is the world’s sports capital and we are proud to have a strong track record of directing the largest and best international events in our big city.”
