Labubu is a gorgeous monster toy, but it’s on track to become a billion-dollar business.
This week, Labubu Maker Pop Mart released its financial results in the first half of 2025, giving the public more insight into how this world of gorgeous monster toys is crazy. The Pop Mart’s Monsters series, including Labubu, generated around $670 million in revenue in the first half and is on track to earn more than $1 billion by the end of the year. This is an increase of 688% year-on-year, covering sales of Mattel toys such as Barbie and Hot Wheels.
These toys for sale in the form of the mystery “blindbox” — sold by the Chinese company Popmart — exploded internationally when Blackpink member Lisa confessed her obsession with ugly creatures. Afterwards, celebrities such as Shale, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Marc Jacobs may stroll around designer bags as keychains.
These 10-year-old myth-inspired characters have become as popular accessories as the 2020 Telfer bag.
