Madonna streams surprise concert on Grindr

Given that Live Nation is a monopoly (according to a federal jury, anyway), getting concert tickets at a decent price has become difficult in recent years. And artists are starting to get creative. Take Madonna, for example, who streamed a pop-up performance last night on the ubiquitous gay dating app Grindr.

Madonna announced a surprise show on the app and took over Times Square 30 minutes later. She premiered several songs from her upcoming album, Confessions II, and performed OG Confessions songs on the dance floor. Despite the short notice, Times Square was packed with fans. Of course, the Grindr bus was also there.

In a press release shared with Mashable, Madonna said, “The LGBTQ+ community has been with me from the beginning. We have continued to inspire, challenge, and stand by each other through dark times and good times.” “Our partnership with Grindr feels like a celebration of the connection of safety in numbers.”

This isn’t the only time the singer has collaborated with Grindle. Last week, interviews with Madonna and several others (including drag queen Bob and playwright Jeremy O. Harris) were streamed live on Grindle’s YouTube channel. During the discussion, Madonna discussed what it means to be a “mother” (in the slang sense of the word) and reiterated that the queer community has been ride-or-die for her since the beginning of her career.

The concert will also be uploaded to Grindr’s YouTube channel the week of June 8th. Happy Pride!
