The Foreign Office said it is “strongly opposed” the movement of residents from Gaza after Trump came up with plans to redevelop.

Malaysia said it is “strongly opposed” to forced resettlement of Palestinians in Gaza after President Donald Trump said Washington would take over the enclave under an extraordinary redevelopment plan.

Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that forced evacuation of Palestinians would constitute ethnic cleansing and violations of international law and multiple UN resolutions.

“An attempt to unilaterally and forcibly impose a solution that ignores the right to self-determination of Palestinians, whether directly or indirectly, is unacceptable and unjustified. It will only deepen one of the longest conflicts in the region,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Malaysia continues to be in solidarity with the Palestinian people. The only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East is the establishment of an independent, sovereign state based on pre-1967 borders and the establishment of East Jerusalem. It’s what we’ve made into the capital.”

The ministry added that the international community should unite with “a reliable and permanent solution acceptable to Palestinians,” and repeatedly supported diplomatic efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state.

In a remarks to Congress later Thursday, Foreign Minister Mohammad Hasan said he would “deeply regret” the Palestinian proposal to resettle the country in Gaza.

“The Palestinians themselves have said they will not leave their homes. Malaysia’s support for Palestine is not temporary. We have long supported their struggle against an independent state,” Mohammad said. said.

With about two-thirds of its population Muslims, Malaysia has no diplomatic ties with Israel and has long been a stubborn supporter of the Palestinian cause.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has voiced himself against Israeli war in Gaza, endorsing the South African massacre at the International Court of Justice and calling for expulsion from the United Nations.

Malaysian leaders also rejected Western pressure to cut ties with Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs Gaza.

Trump’s proposal to take over and “own” Gaza has been thoroughly rejected by Palestinian organisations, including Hamas, the Palestinian authorities and the Palestinian Liberation Agency, and has been widely criticized by the international community.

On Wednesday, members of the Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, appeared to betray the proposal, saying that Palestinian resettlement would occur temporarily while Gaza was being rebuilt.
