The Tuareg independence movement denounced soldiers and Russian mercenaries for killing civilians.

The Mali army launched an investigation into the murder of civilians suspected by soldiers and Russian mercenaries earlier this week in a rare investigation into human rights abuses since the military came to power in 2020.

The front for the liberation of Azawad, the Tuareg Independence Movement, based in the north of the country, has been tied up Marian soldiers and Russian Wagner Group mercenaries from the East Marian city of GAO, and has been “cold” for at least 24 years of age or older. “We’ll do it,” he accused them of intercepting two private vehicles. People among passengers on Monday.

Without mentioning Wednesday’s killing, Mali’s troops denounced the “intoxicating campaign” against the army. By Friday, the Army announced it would begin investigating the deaths.

According to the Tuareg Independence Movement earlier this week, one vehicle flares up, while the other vehicle fled with the survivors.

The family of one of the drivers of the vehicle said one vehicle was transporting immigrants to AFP news agency on Tuesday.

“They met a group of Wagner’s mercenaries and a group of Mali’s soldiers who shot them. In the first car, everyone died. My cousin too,” they said anonymously. I said.

However, Rida Lyamuuri, a senior fellow at the New South policy center, a Moroccan think tank, told The Associated Press that an army investigation into the incident is unlikely to find obstacles to the actions of soldiers and Russian mercenaries. He spoke.

“The purpose of the investigation is to counter allegations against [the army] And rather than trying to find the wrongdoing by the latter. The conclusion of the investigation is likely to say that these allegations are wrong,” Lyamuuri said.

Mali has been in crisis for over a decade. In 2020, military groups, riding on popular complaints about the attacks by armed groups, seized power in a coup that overthrew a democratically elected president.

The military rulers of Mali, led by Colonel Assimi Gaita, turned to Russian Wagner mercenary groups for security after breaking ties with former colonial ruler France.

In December, Human Rights Watch condemned the “atrocity” committed against civilians by the Army, its Russian allies, as well as groups belonging to ISIL and al-Qaeda.
