LOS ANGELES (AP) — Security guards were charged with murder Tuesday in the shooting death of a dean of a small technical college near Los Angeles, officials said.

Kameisha Dennis Clark, dean of student affairs, passed away in hospital on Monday Photo taken on a Friday afternoon family said at Spartan University on the Aviation Technology and Technology Campus in Inglewood. Another female employee was injured in the shooting.

Jesse Figueroa, 40, has been charged with several counts of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm as a felon. He also faces increased gun sentences, which could lead to additional penalties when guns are used during a crime.

Figueroa appeared in court on May 29th and faces the largest life sentence in a state prison if convicted of charges. His public defense attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

Chris Becker, the campus president of Technical College, said Figueroa worked for a company that provided security to the school.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts said last week that the claims were not a possible motive, although it appears to be a case of workplace violence.

Clark’s family said she was recently promoted to Dean at school.

“Kameisha has raised someone lucky enough to cross her path,” her family said in a statement to KNBC. “Her deep sense of leadership, integrity and purpose helped shape the future of countless students, from the Clark-Atlanta University campus to Spartan College.
